The engine was tested to the limits during the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring and it transfers its power via a close-ratio Direct Shift 10-speed automatic transmission.

The wind tunnel played a huge role in the LC Convertible development. The aerodynamic refinement means that the car is also capable of reaching top speeds of 270 km/h with the roof open. The intelligent, lightweight roof construction, a combination of magnesium and aluminium ensures that the centre of gravity is even lower than with the Coupé. And all this provides extremely stable and dynamic road holding.

Once seated at the wheel of the LC Convertible you feel reassured by the knowledge that you’re driving in one of the safest cars ever. This is partly due to the latest generation Lexus Safety System+, which helps prevent rear-end collisions and collisions with pedestrians. The system also prevents you from leaving your lane unintended.

Opening or closing the soft-top takes just fifteen minutes. You can even operate the roof while driving up to speeds of 50 km/h. The roof comprises four layers, with an outer layer of fluorocarbon-impregnated material. The second layer is made from insulating rubber, followed by an inner layer of synthetic material and a fourth layer of sound-absorbing material.

In the event of a collision with a pedestrian, sensors in the front bumper automatically raise the bonnet slightly, creating more space between the bonnet and the hard components of the engine below, which reduces the risk of injury to the pedestrian.

For the LC Convertible, the Climate Concierge was modified to control features including air-conditioning and seat and neck heating. Based on our ‘Omotenashi’ hospitality philosophy, additional warm air is channelled towards key points, for example to keep your hands nice and warm on the steering wheel.

The front headrests are equipped with configurable neck heating to blow warm air around your neck, giving an immediate warm and pleasant feeling while driving. The neck heating was designed with varying body heights in mind and works automatically. You can also operate this feature manually in three different settings.

The sublime Mark Levinson® Premium Surround System with GreenEdge™ technology and thirteen speakers is customised to the acoustic features of the car interior. When you open the roof, the speaker settings are adjusted automatically. The system sounds like a full home theatre installation.

With Apple CarPlay®, the LC Convertible enables you to display and use your smartphone apps on the 10.3″ multimedia display.

As the interior of an open car is visible immediately, extra attention has been paid to the details. The backrest, for instance, is finished in a unique diamond pattern with three types of perforations that gradually become less visible; an example of subtle and timeless beauty. The roof switch is also intentionally concealed beneath the hand rest so that opening and closing the roof is always a special experience.

The leather headrests are equipped with discretely concealed neck heating, while the seatbelt guide appears to have been manufactured from solid metal. Combined with the leather strap, this exudes unmistakeable quality in keeping with the look of the rest of the interior.
